Eight Cape Town (CPT) beaches have retained Blue Flag status for the 2026/27 season with four additional beaches named pilot sites.
The announcement was made at the annual Blue Flag and Green Coast Awards in Hermanus on October 8.
The recognised beaches are Bikini Beach, Camps Bay, Clifton 4th, Fish Hoek, Llandudno, Melkbosstrand, Muizenberg and Silwerstroomstrand.
The pilot sites are Chapman’s Peak (Hout Bay), Big Bay, Strand and Strandfontein, which will undergo feasibility assessments against the programme’s international criteria.
Coordinated by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa, the Blue Flag programme assesses beaches on water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility and public amenities.
The city plans to introduce amphibious wheelchairs at several beaches, including most Blue Flag sites, to improve ocean access for people with mobility impairments.
