Dulini, one of Southern Africa’s most celebrated families of owner-run safari lodges, has officially expanded into Botswana with the acquisition of Daunara Safari Camp — a secluded five-suite retreat on a private island in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The camp will now operate as Dulini Daunara, and marks the founding of Dulini Botswana — completing what is fast becoming one of the most compelling safari circuits on the continent: the legendary Sabi Sand in South Africa, the remote Lower Zambezi in Zambia, and now the pristine Okavango Delta in Botswana.
A Southern African Circuit Like No Other
Since its founding in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve — home to three acclaimed lodges, Dulini Moya, Dulini River, and Dulini Leadwood — Dulini has been synonymous with intimate, owner-managed safaris and world-class Big Five game viewing. The 2015 addition of Dulini Anabezi in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park extended that reputation to one of Africa’s last truly wild river systems, where guests canoe alongside hippos, walk beneath cathedral-tall Winterthorn trees, and watch elephants cross the Zambezi at sunset.
With Dulini Daunara, the portfolio of lodges now spans three of the continent’s most iconic ecosystems — each distinct, each extraordinary, and each connected by the same defining thread: small-scale, conservation-led luxury, guided by people who know and love these places intimately.
“This is a deeply meaningful step for us. The Okavango Delta has always occupied a special place in the hearts of those of us who love wild Africa — it is a place of genuine wonder. Daunara embodies everything we believe a safari should be: remote, personal, and rooted in a real commitment to the land and the communities that live alongside it. It fits naturally into the Dulini family, and we believe that together we can offer our guests something truly remarkable: a journey through three of Africa’s greatest wilderness areas, each managed with the same care and passion. We are enormously excited about what lies ahead for Dulini Botswana.”

Dulini Daunara: An Island in the Heart of the Delta
Few safari settings on earth match the drama and seclusion of Daunara’s. The camp occupies its own private island within 125,000 hectares of pristine Southern Okavango wilderness — accessible only by helicopter from Maun — and sits perched at the edge of a permanent water body, where the rhythms of the Delta play out just beyond the deck. Elephants wade through the shallows. Hippos surface at dusk. The sounds of the bush replace silence at dawn.
Opened in 2024, the five-suite camp accommodates a maximum of twelve guests and can be booked suite by suite or taken exclusively in its entirety — offering flexibility for couples and small groups as well as families or parties of friends seeking complete privacy. Architecture is sleek and distinctly African: hand-crafted timber and canvas suites, a sunken firepit, a salt-chlorinated lap pool, and a walkway that extends over the water itself — equally suited to a sundowner or a moonlit mokoro departure.
Two of the five suites are connected by shared sitting and dining areas, ideal for families or close friends travelling together, while the remaining three are freestanding. A family-friendly kitchen allows guests to interact directly with the Daunara chefs, and a resident sommelier pairs each meal with selections from a well-stocked wine cellar.
Activities are fully tailored to each group and encompass the full breadth of what the Okavango offers: morning and evening game drives across floodplains, guided walking safaris, seasonal boating, catch-and-release fishing from the floating deck, and unhurried mokoro excursions through papyrus-lined channels. The surrounding concession is home to lion, leopard, elephant, wild dog, and extraordinary birdlife — all experienced without the presence of other vehicles.
The camp’s conservation and community commitment runs deep. The Daunara Foundation supports a preschool and organic farm in the surrounding village — the source of much of the kitchen’s fresh produce — and the majority of staff are drawn from that same community.
