Namibian hospitality leader returns to where her journey began
Wolwedans is delighted to announce the appointment of Selma Simaneka Benyameni as Executive Hospitality Manager, marking a meaningful homecoming for one of Namibia’s most accomplished hospitality leaders.
Selma returns to Wolwedans nearly two decades after first joining the company in 2007, where she began her career as a Trainee at the Wolwedans Desert Academy in the heart of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Since then, she has built an exceptional track record across some of Africa’s most respected safari and tourism operations, most notably with Wilderness, where she held senior leadership positions and earned a reputation for operational excellence, service innovation, and people-centred leadership.
In her new role, Selma will lead the hospitality vision and guest experience across the Wolwedans collection, including Desert Lodge, Dune Camp, Plains Camp, Boulders Camp and Mountain View Suite. Working closely with the operational leadership team, she will oversee every aspect of the guest journey, ensuring that each stay reflects the warmth, authenticity and profound sense of place that have become synonymous with the Wolwedans experience.
A proud Namibian and dynamic female leader, Selma brings a wealth of experience in luxury hospitality, team development and service excellence. Her appointment reflects Wolwedans’ ongoing commitment to investing in local talent and strengthening Namibian leadership at the highest levels of the organisation.
For Wolwedans founder Stephan Brückner, Selma’s return represents both a full-circle moment and an exciting new chapter for the company.
“There is something deeply meaningful about welcoming Selma back to Wolwedans. She began her journey here and, over the past 18 years, has grown into one of Namibia’s most accomplished hospitality leaders. Her experience, energy and understanding of what creates truly exceptional guest experiences make her uniquely qualified to lead this important area of our business. We are thrilled to have her back where it all started.”
Selma’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Wolwedans as the company continues to evolve its guest offering while remaining true to its founding philosophy of conservation, sustainability and authentic human connection. Her leadership will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of Wolwedans experiences, ensuring that every guest leaves with a deeper connection to the landscape, its people and the spirit of the NamibRand.
“My journey has taught me that hospitality is the art of creating emotion. It is found in a smile, a shared story, a thoughtful gesture, and the creation of a genuine sense of belonging. Returning to Wolwedans feels like coming home, and I am excited to bring my energy, heart and passion for people into this next chapter. Together with the remarkable Wolwedans team, I look forward to creating meaningful experiences that inspire joy, foster connection, and leave guests with memories that last a lifetime. I believe the new luxury is human connection.”
For Selma, this appointment is more than a career milestone – it is a return to the place where her journey began. For Wolwedans, it marks the return of a respected Namibian leader whose experience, passion and vision will help shape the future of one of Africa’s most iconic desert destinations.
