Kafunta Safaris has officially reopened its two off-the-beaten-track bush camps, Three Rivers Camp and Island Bush Camp, for the start of the 2026 safari season in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park.
Accessible only during the dry season, both camps offer an intimate safari experience in some of the park’s most remote and scenic areas. Open from late May to end of October, they provide a contrast to the permanent Kafunta River Lodge, allowing guests to explore more remote corners of South Luangwa while enjoying the company’s signature blend of guiding, comfort and authentic hospitality.
This season brings an exciting addition to Three Rivers Camp: a brand-new swimming pool nestled beneath giant sausage trees. Designed to complement the camp’s natural setting, the pool offers a refreshing place to relax between safari activities while taking in views of the surrounding wilderness.
Three Rivers Camp features five spacious tented suites, each with its own star bed, while Island Bush Camp offers an equally intimate experience with five open-sided reed chalets that embrace the simplicity of life in the bush. Both camps enjoy 180-degree views of the Luangwa River and are renowned for their exceptional walking safaris and personalised guiding, allowing guests to explore South Luangwa at a slower pace and from a different perspective.
The reopening coincides with the beginning of the dry season, traditionally regarded as one of the best times for wildlife viewing in the park, as animals gather around permanent water sources and vegetation becomes less dense.
