Babanango Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, has announced the official approval of Eagle’s View Airstrip, creating a new and more convenient way for travelers to access the reserve and opening the door to expanded fly-in safari itineraries.
Located within the reserve in Zululand, Eagle’s View was approved as a Type A Aerodrome by the South African Civil Aviation Authority on August 24, 2026. Guests will now have the opportunity to fly directly into Babanango, reducing lengthy road transfers and making it easier to incorporate the reserve into both domestic and international safari programs. The new access is particularly suited to private charters, high-end travelers and guests looking to maximize their time in the bush.
The development further strengthens access to Babanango’s nearly 21,000 hectares of rewilded wilderness in the heart of Zululand. The reserve combines wildlife and conservation experiences with a varied accommodation portfolio, including the ultra-luxury Madwaleni River Lodge, Zulu Rock Lodge, family-friendly Babanango Valley Lodge, self-catering Matatane Camp and the walking-safari-focused Ogomeni Trails Camp.
Babanango is the setting for one of Southern Africa’s most ambitious recent rewilding projects and is home to diverse landscapes along the upper White Umfolozi River Valley. The reserve also lies within reach of significant historical sites including Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, allowing travel advisors and tour operators to combine safari, conservation and cultural experiences within a broader KwaZulu-Natal itinerary.
The addition of Eagle’s View Airstrip is intended to make Babanango more accessible while maintaining the sense of remoteness and wilderness that is central to the reserve experience.
