The Flying Dutchman Funicular at Cape Point National Park has reopened following maintenance and a major upgrade of its control system.
The funicular transports visitors 585 metres to the terraced viewing area overlooking Dias Beach and the historic lighthouse. From the upper terrace, visitors can climb 114 steps to the pinnacle.
Operating on a counterbalanced two-car system, each car can accommodate 40 passengers. It can complete up to 240 trips daily, transporting approximately 378 000 visitors annually. Its magnetic drive system reduces energy consumption by 50% while ensuring a quiet ride to the top.
