The Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF) has reassured travelers and tourism industry partners that Kenya remains open for tourism and business travel following confirmation of an isolated imported case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
According to a statement issued by KTF on October 6, the case involved a traveler who had recently arrived in Kenya from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Following confirmation of the case, Kenyan authorities increased surveillance, contact tracing and other public health response measures aimed at preventing further transmission.
Kenya’s Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies have reinforced existing preparedness measures, including enhanced screening at points of entry, disease surveillance, laboratory testing, rapid response teams, infection prevention and control procedures, isolation and case-management capacity.
The country is also coordinating with the World Health Organization, Africa CDC and other partners as part of its ongoing public health response.
KTF emphasized that Kenya’s tourism, travel and hospitality industry continues to operate normally and that the country remains open and welcoming to international visitors.
Travelers are being encouraged to follow basic preventive health measures, including regular hand hygiene, avoiding contact with bodily fluids of people who are unwell, and seeking medical attention if experiencing symptoms associated with Ebola, particularly following travel to an affected country.
KTF is also encouraging travelers and tourism stakeholders to rely on verified information from official health authorities and to avoid sharing unconfirmed reports.
“Kenya continues to welcome visitors and is taking proactive, science-based measures to protect public health while sustaining tourism and business travel,” the Federation said in its statement.
