Following one of the strongest rainy seasons northern Botswana has experienced in recent years, Moremi Game Reserve is expected to reopen on 26 March 2026 after a temporary closure caused by seasonal flooding.
The significant rainfall across the Okavango Delta region has brought welcome conditions to the ecosystem. Increased water levels, renewed grazing areas, and abundant food sources, along with the arrival of many newborn animals, are expected to support strong wildlife activity in the coming months and create excellent conditions for the upcoming dry season.
Hideaways Africa’s nearby properties continue to operate as normal. Hideaways Mankwe Tented Retreat and Hideaways Camelthorn Bush Camp, both located in the NG43 private concession, as well as Hideaways Mogotlho Safari Lodge along the Khwai River in NG41, remain open and fully operational as they prepare for the upcoming safari season.
Safari activities within the private concessions have continued throughout the rainy season, allowing guests to enjoy wildlife viewing while road access to certain areas of the reserve was temporarily affected.
As road conditions improve and Moremi prepares to reopen, the strong rains are expected to bring lush vegetation, abundant grazing, and increased wildlife movement across the region. These conditions often result in exceptional game viewing opportunities as animals take advantage of the renewed water sources and fresh grazing.
These strong seasonal rains have not only benefited the Greater Moremi area but have also been felt across much of Botswana and Zimbabwe, bringing renewed life to the landscapes surrounding the majority of Hideaways Africa’s camps. As the dry season approaches, these conditions are expected to support excellent wildlife activity across the board.
