Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will become the first airline in Africa to offer Starlink internet service onboard, with the service rolling out progressively across 41 aircraft from early 2027.
Announcing the partnership, Starlink said, “Soon, passengers and crew onboard Royal Air Maroc will have access to Starlink, the same high-speed, low-latency internet that is already transforming travel on other continents. From Casablanca to the rest of Africa and beyond, travelers will enjoy reliable internet inflight.”
The connection will be free for members of the airline’s Safar Flyer loyalty program.
Starlink is owned and operated by SpaceX, the U.S. aerospace manufacturer founded and led by Elon Musk. It uses satellites in low Earth orbit to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet, which the company says can support streaming, browsing, working, gaming and real-time communication in flight.
According to the CAPA Fleet Database, RAM operates 69 aircraft: 27 Boeing 737-800s; 21 737-8s; seven 787-8s; six 787-9s; four Embraer 190s; two Beech 200-series aircraft; one 737-200; and one 767-300. A further 12 737-8s are on order.
