Air Zimbabwe Returns to London After 14 Years

Air Zimbabwe is about to rewrite aviation history in Southern Africa. After 14 years of absence from the United Kingdom market, the national carrier plans to launch nonstop flights between Harare and London Gatwick beginning July 1, 2026—a move that could fundamentally reshape travel for Zimbabwean diaspora communities, business travelers, and international tourists.

The last time Air Zimbabwe touched down at a London airport was in 2012. Financial pressures, fleet limitations, and regulatory challenges ultimately forced the airline to suspend its UK operations. Since then, travelers heading between Zimbabwe and Britain have relied on connecting services through Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Dubai, Doha, or European hubs, often turning a journey of around 11 hours into an exhausting 16- to 24-hour trip.

Now, Air Zimbabwe is preparing to reconnect two countries with a direct link that many believed would never return.
